If your computer is not playing sound during a session, this may be an issue with your speakers, your Windows sound settings, or EEGer. To diagnose the issue, please complete the following steps in order.

  1. From EEGer main screen, select Help>>Run Tech Support Menu from the top toolbar.
  2. Click the button that says Test Sound (this computer).

If you hear a sound from the sound test utility, this means that the sound issue is localized to EEGer.

  1. Restart EEGer and replay a test session.
  2. Press the V key during the session to see EEGer's volume control menu.
  3. If this does not work, restart your computer, re-open EEGer, and play a test session.

If you do not hear a sound from the sound test utility, this means that the sound issue is affecting your entire computer, not just EEGer.

  1. Double check that any speaker cables are properly connected.
  2. Check that your volume settings in Windows are not set to mute or set too quiet. You can check this by clicking the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the Windows taskbar.
  3. Sometimes a simple system reboot will fix audio issues. Restart your computer and run EEGer's sound test again.
  4. For two-monitor set-ups, Windows will sometimes automatically choose to use your second monitor (if connected via HDMI cable) as a speaker (even if this monitor has no speakers). To check if this is the issue, navigate to the Windows Control Panel (accessible from the Windows Start menu).
  5. Select Hardware and Sound.
  6. Select Manage audio devices.
  7. Select the desired audio device from the list of audio devices and click Set as Default.
Note: If you are not sure which device you are supposed to set as default, test each of the devices in turn.
I.e., set the first device as default, then run EEGer's sound test to see if your system has sound. If it does not, set the next device as default and test again. Continue until you have tested all audio devices in the list.
  8. Select Apply from the bottom of the menu, then OK.
  9. Test your computer's sound by clicking the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the Windows taskbar.
